A Volatility Storm Is Brewing
Morning, folks, Chris “CJ” Johnson here.
Gilead (GILD) lost $6.75 a share last quarter.
Strip out the acquisition costs behind that loss and the quarter earned $2.27, on revenue of $7.80 billion against a $7.35 billion consensus, with management raising its outlook for the back half of 2026.
Shares bottomed at $125 on that report and have gone range-bound since.
Two weeks of that has the Bollinger Bands tightening into a Volatility Storm. Bollinger Band Width now reads in the lower 6% of the last year, and anything under 10% says the stock is ready to make an aggressive move.
Volatility measures acceleration. Direction comes from the short-term trend measures, and those point higher here.
Resistance sits at $136.50 with the top band right underneath at $136.29. Shares closed Tuesday at $135.77 after tagging $136.85 intraday.
The last Volatility Storm in this name fired July 2 and ran 7% in five days, 8.2% in ten.
Peak call open interest for August sits at the $150 strike.
